Roles and Responsibilites
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers — setting clear goals and supporting career development
- Own planning, execution, and on-time delivery of backend projects with high quality and reliability
- Drive technical direction and architecture for backend services built on Java and Spring Boot
- Stay hands-on — review code, unblock the team, and maintain a high engineering bar
- Establish and improve engineering practices around code quality, testing, observability, and system reliability
- Collaborate with product and cross-functional stakeholders to define priorities and roadmaps
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
Skills and qualifications
- 9+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend systems track record
- At least 1 year of leadership experience (leading projects, tech leading, or managing a team)
- Strong, hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot
- High ownership mindset with accountability for end-to-end outcomes
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Solid grounding in system design, distributed systems, APIs, and databases
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- People management experience (direct reports) — strongly preferred
- Experience scaling backend systems for performance, reliability, and high availability
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure, microservices, and modern CI/CD practices
