General Manager - Coffee Trading

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage and strengthen relationships with key clients, including roasters, importers, distributors, retailers, and other coffee buyers.
  • Understand customer requirements, buying behaviour, quality specifications, pricing expectations, and future demand.
  • Identify and develop new commercial and trading opportunities across assigned international markets.
  • Analyse regional demand, customer preferences, competitive dynamics, pricing trends, and supply availability.
  • Support the execution of the organisation's global coffee sales and trading strategy across assigned regions.
  • Work closely with global commercial and trading teams to translate business strategy into actionable regional plans.
  • Monitor global and regional coffee market developments and contribute to trading strategy discussions.
  • Evaluate commercial opportunities considering market conditions, margins, inventory positions, customer commitments, and risk exposure.
  • Collaborate with coffee processing plants, operations, logistics, and other internal stakeholders to ensure seamless execution.
  • Lead commercial discussions with customers around evolving sustainability requirements and expectations.
  • Support the implementation of relevant regulatory and customer requirements, including sustainability-related regulations such as EUDR.
  • Monitor and manage commercial and trading risks in collaboration with Risk Management and Trading teams, including commodity price, foreign exchange, inventory, counterparty, and execution risks.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agriculture, Engineering, or a related discipline.-
  • MBA or qualification in International Trade would be an added advantage.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in Coffee Trading.
  • Strong understanding of the global coffee market, including pricing, supply-demand dynamics, and trading practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing international customers and developing commercial relationships.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and evaluate profitable opportunities.
  • Good understanding of commodity trading risks and market exposure.
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Exposure to sustainability requirements and evolving international regulations will be advantageous.
