Healthcare & Life SciencesBangaloreStrategy & Consulting

About the Company

A well-established API manufacturer with GMP-compliant plants in India. The company operates at a stable large revenue scale and is predominantly export-oriented, with a strong presence in international regulated markets. The Family Office is a part of a large conglomerate and holds a significant stake in the pharma entity and is seeking to add a Board-level advisor who can provide independent, high-quality strategic guidance to accelerate this trajectory.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Board Advisor will serve as the Family Office’s strategic eyes and ears on the pharma portfolio — offering a seasoned, independent perspective to the Managing Partner and, where relevant, to the Board and senior management.
  • Strategic Product & Pipeline Advisory
  • Evaluate existing and prospective product pipeline against near and long-term growth objectives
  • Advise on the right molecules to target and the most promising global markets to pursue
  • Assess whether the current pipeline is calibrated to meet the company’s next phase of growth, and recommend course corrections where needed
  • Provide a view on new product strategy, including identification of high-value APIs with strong regulatory and commercial prospects
  • Value Chain & Business Model Evolution
  • Guide the company’s thinking on the natural progression for an API business
  • Advise on the strategic, operational, and financial trade-offs of each pathway, with a clear articulation of risks and mitigation strategies
  • Help management and the Board understand what it takes to transition, and whether the company is ready to make that move
  • Regulatory & Market Intelligence
  • Leverage experience with USFDA, EMA, and other regulated market approvals to advise on sustaining and expanding the company’s regulatory standing
  • Provide intelligence on shifting global regulatory landscapes, therapeutic area trends, and competitive API markets
  • Identify risks in existing markets and opportunities in new geographies or therapeutic segments
  • Revenue Growth & Shareholder Value
  • Advise on realistic pathways to ramp up revenue from the existing base, through pricing, customer mix, volume expansion, and new partnerships
  • Offer a shareholder-aligned perspective on capital allocation, partnership structures, and strategic investments
  • Provide scenario analysis and pros/cons frameworks to support high-stakes strategic decisions

Skills and qualifications

  • 25+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with deep and direct expertise in API manufacturing and strategy
  • Proven track record in building or scaling API businesses across regulated global markets (US, EU, Japan, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with USFDA inspections, GMP compliance, and regulated market drug approvals
  • Broad exposure across the pharma value chain: API → R&D → CDMO → FDF → Drug Development is highly desirable
  • Experience in specialty APIs, or complex molecules is a strong advantage
  • Senior executives, former CEOs, plant heads, regulatory affairs leaders, or BD heads from major pharma or API companies are encouraged to apply
  • Industry veterans who have recently transitioned out of full-time executive roles and are open to selective advisory or Board-level engagements
  • Professionals with a global perspective on API markets and an established network across pharma companies, CDMOs, and regulatory bodies
  • Individuals who bring a holistic view of the pharma lifecycle — from molecule selection and manufacturing to commercialization and market access
