Chief of Staff to CBO

Financial ServicesMumbaiStrategy & Consulting

About the Company

  • Our client is a well-established, fast-growing lending institution in India, with a diversified presence across wholesale lending, direct lending, and technology-enabled partnerships with NBFCs and fintechs. Backed by a strong underwriting engine and a technology-first model, the organization plays a meaningful role in expanding access to credit for underserved and underpenetrated segments of the population.
  • The company is well-capitalized, carries strong credit ratings, and operates a sizeable pan-India branch network with a loan book in the billions of dollars. It is part of a larger global financial services group with an established international presence and a multi-decade track record in financial services across several geographies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Our client is looking for a Chief of Staff to operate as a direct strategic partner to the Chief Business Officer. This is not a support function — it is a business-critical role for someone who can think like an operator, act like a consultant, and drive outcomes across a fast-scaling lending business.
  • Strategy & Business Planning
  • Convert the CBO's commercial vision into structured, multi-department execution plans with clear milestones and owners
  • Track regulatory guidelines, digital lending norms, and co-lending market trends, translating implications into strategic recommendations
  • Represent the CBO's perspective in select management, credit committee, and stakeholder forums, ensuring continuity of decision-making
  • Business Performance & Cross-Functional Execution
  • Orchestrate alignment across risk, credit, technology, and operations to accelerate product launches and loan disbursement targets
  • Design and run the cadence of weekly, monthly, and quarterly business reviews with regional and product leadership
  • Own the closed-loop tracking of decisions and commitments made in these reviews, ensuring accountability across functions
  • Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships
  • Lead the incubation of new strategic partnerships with fintechs, co-lending banks, and digital aggregators from concept through early execution
  • Drive special projects originating from the CBO's office — from problem framing through cross-functional delivery
  • Act as a connective layer between the CBO's priorities and the teams responsible for delivering them
  • Executive Narrative & Governance
  • Develop high-impact board presentations, investor materials, and rating agency communications on behalf of the CBO's office
  • Shape organization-wide communication that drives alignment across a dispersed branch network
  • Maintain rigor and discretion around sensitive business documentation — including partner agreements, NDAs, and regulatory correspondence
  • Stakeholder & Relationship Management
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for external partners, banking counterparts, and regulators engaging with the CBO's office
  • Build strong working relationships with functional leaders across risk, credit, technology, and operations to enable faster decision-making
  • Coordinate with peer Chief of Staff / leadership office functions to keep enterprise priorities aligned

Skills and qualifications

  • 4–8 years of experience in strategy, management consulting, business operations, or a Chief of Staff role — ideally within BFSI, NBFC, fintech, or another fast-scaling business environment
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to engage meaningfully on credit, risk, and lending operations
  • A track record of driving cross-functional initiatives to completion, with structured follow-through and accountability
  • Sharp analytical and communication skills, including experience preparing board- or investor-grade materials
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and commercially sensitive information
  • A builder's mindset — comfortable operating with ambiguity, taking ownership, and working at pace in a scaling organization

What's On Offer
