About the Company
The organization is operating within the surgical and medical device ecosystem, focused on identifying and addressing unmet clinical needs in the Indian market (and select export markets). They actively build partnerships and in-license innovative clinical solutions from domestic and global innovation hubs to ensure surgeons and hospitals have access to the best products available.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Unmet Surgical Need Identification: Systematically map gaps in the Indian surgical market by specialty, procedure, and care setting where clinical solutions are lacking. Engage surgeons, KOLs, and internal teams to build a living "need map" that distinguishes genuine white-space opportunities from needs already served by strong incumbents.
- Partner & Product Scouting: Proactively search for product companies across India, the US, Europe, Korea, Japan, China, and other innovation hubs. Build a wide network across medtech incubators, investors, and industry associations to surface opportunities, and maintain a structured CRM/tracker of all scouted companies.
- Pipeline Development & Prioritization: Build a consolidated partnership pipeline and rank-order it using a consistent framework based on market potential, synergy, and ease of closure. Present this pipeline to leadership on a regular cadence.
- Commercial & Technical Evaluation: Lead early-stage evaluations of shortlisted products- assessing clinical differentiation, regulatory status, and cost viability; and build detailed business cases.
- Deal Structuring & Negotiation: Structure licensing, distribution, or co-development deals (exclusivity, margins, royalties) and lead commercial negotiations directly with partner companies. - - Deal Closure: Own the end-to-end closure process, driving deals to signed agreements starting with the highest-ranked opportunities. Track closure velocity against the pipeline plan and resolve stalled deals.
- Post-Deal Management: Ensure a clean handover to internal teams (Regulatory, Supply Chain, Sales) for launch execution, and maintain the relationship with licensor companies post-signing.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with R&D, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Exports to align in-licensing priorities with overall company strategy.
Skills and qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in business development, in-licensing, corporate development, or strategic partnerships within medical devices, surgical products, or pharma.
- Deal-Making Track Record: Demonstrated success in sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and closing licensing or distribution deals.
- Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of the Indian surgical/hospital ecosystem, with experience identifying clinical unmet needs.
- Global Exposure: Experience engaging with international product companies and conducting cross-border deal-making, alongside exposure to regulatory, manufacturing, and commercial considerations.
- Core Capabilities: Strong analytical and structured thinking, sharp commercial and negotiation skills, and a wide, credible network across the medtech ecosystem.
- Work Style: Self-driven and comfortable owning a mandate end-to-end, with a willingness to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally.
- Education: Bachelor's degree required, with a preference for Engineering, Life Sciences, or Pharmacy disciplines.
